Update your app

It’s time to refresh your My San Jose app, because the city released several new updates to the service last month. The changes aim to make the platform more user-friendly and to make it easier for citizens to submit requests through the app.

Airport wages take off

Beginning July 1, employees at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport will get a new, higher minimum wage. With the 61-cent increase, employees with benefits will make $16.46 per hour, and employees without benefits will earn $17.71 per hour.

Plan your build

Planning a new construction project? On May 30 at City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., you can meet with experts who can help you through the permitting, planning and inspection processes. The event is set for 6-8 p.m. and will include presentations on accessory dwelling units and energy-saving techniques.

‘Science Kid’ exhibit

A new exhibit opens May 25 at the Children’s Discovery Museum. Sid the Science Kid: The Super-Duper Exhibit will feature one of PBS KIDS’ most beloved characters, taking visitors into Sid’s world and transforming them into “science kids” themselves with hands-on activities.

Reading the crowd

Next week marks the start of the San Jose Public Library’s eight-week Summer Learning Program, which aims to put a stop to summer learning loss. The program serves nearly 20,000 San Jose residents annually, setting reading goals and helping residents achieve them. The citywide goal for 2019 is for San Jose residents to read for a cumulative half-million hours over the summer months.
